Overview

William D. Ellison is a senior attorney at Michaels & May, P.C. Prior to joining Michaels & May, P.C., Mr. Ellison practiced at Lord Bissell & Brook (1988-2003) and in the Kansas City, Missouri office of Brown & James, P.C. (2004). Mr. Ellison has substantial nationwide experience in complex insurance coverage matters, including numerous matters arising out of environmental contamination, asbestos, toxic torts and aviation. He has served as Chairman of several joint defense groups established by multiple insurers in large high-profile cases and has conducted successful trials and appeals. Mr. Ellison has significant experience in coordinating, supervising, and implementing litigation strategies and trial tactics as well as in negotiating and implementing favorable settlement agreements.

Mr. Ellison’s practice has also included additional experience in business litigation, and he is also an experienced defense litigator, having represented numerous parties either directly or on behalf of their insurers against a wide variety of claims.

Insurance Counseling

Mr. Ellison has counseled numerous clients in respect of coverage issues, claim valuation, and reserving practices. He is familiar with insurance principles pertaining to third-party, first-party and reinsurance claims and has significant knowledge of legal trends and developments in multiple jurisdictions.

Education and Background

Mr. Ellison received his J.D. from Northern Illinois University in 1988, where he received several academic awards and graduated magna cum laude. Before practicing law, Mr. Ellison was a broadcaster for a National Public Radio affiliate and an educator.
